Summa Capital Management

Summa Capital Management was founded in 2006 to provide investment advisory services to individuals and families. We offer a personalized alternative to large banks and brokers, based on the following principles:

  • We are a fiduciary Investment Advisor, not a broker
  • We believe experience and common sense are fundamental to long term success in investing.
  • Our investment approach is based on diversification and long term investing.
  • We focus on plain vanilla investing through mutual funds and exchange traded funds, not stock picking or exotic investments.  Our investments are liquid, publicly traded securities.
  • We use a reputable third party custodian (Fidelity Investments) to help ensure the integrity of client accounts, allow clients to maximize their control over their funds and have access to other banking products.
  • We directly manage client accounts, based on our proprietary investment models rather than outsourcing investment management to other firms or divisions so clients have direct contact with the person managing their investments.  Our principals also invest in the same models to further align our interests with those of our clients.
  • Our investment models change over time based on macroeconomic and trading conditions to address risks and opportunities in financial markets with moderate tactical allocation.
  • Our advice is provided on a fee only basis that aligns our interest with that of our clients.

Meet the Manager

Brian A. Schaffield

I take care of each account personally. I recognize how important your financial performance is to your well-being and I want to make a positive difference for you and your family. It’s a relationship that I endeavor to treat with the highest professionalism.

SCM grew out of my personal and professional investment experience, applied to my own and family members situations. My approach to investing was forged on Wall Street, working in New York City for major institutions, then in London and Latin America. I worked in most functional areas of corporate finance and mergers & acquisitions and spent 6 years working abroad in international markets. Advances in technology have leveled the playing field in individual investing and allow SCM to offer tools and services that were previously for institutions and large family offices.

My vision is to put the necessary experience behind the right technology to drive a low cost, high value added wealth management service that delivers on client expectations.
